My core learning design ethos is ‘to create and champion accessible and inclusive learning experiences’. True engagement and capability building happen only when learning is accessible, inclusive, and learner-centric.
My current learning design process utilises adult learning theories, starting with a backwards design approach – determining key outcomes before developing content; experiential learning (doing, reflecting, building, testing); and utilising storytelling and scenario-based learning to situate the learner and allow them to practice their skills in real time. Developing learning for adults also requires consistent messaging, achievable duration and appropriate learning pathways to ensure learners can complete course requirements and action their learning.
As an individual with a strong social justice lens I am here to make complex concepts easy to understand and relate to. I believe learning experiences must also be evidence-informed, relevant to the learner and applicable in real-world environments straight away. Without practicing new skills, learners won’t remember the experience and the learning just won’t stick!
